A difficult month in the Middle East leaves us searching for words that refuse to come. Yet even in the darkest times, our passion for musical discovery endures. Our research team has continued to meet and collaborate throughout these challenging weeks, compiling a collection that serves as both soundtrack and reflection—tracks that echo the emotions we struggle to articulate. While our playlist includes a variety of artists, we’ve chosen to spotlight feminine voices this month, drawn to the healing qualities they offer in stark contrast to the testosterone-heavy atmosphere that has permeated recent weeks.
Our three featured discoveries showcase voices that ground, elevate, and transform:
“Lady Buzz Killer” by psychedelic duo All Seeing Dolls creates a fascinating paradox—seeming to stand perfectly still while radiating perpetual motion. The collaboration between Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and Dot Allison yields something that draws you in and makes one’s lost for words a soothing experience. Allison’s soft vocals drift through the track like water droplets hitting fire, evaporating on contact yet leaving their mark in the lingering steam.
Jules Reidy‘s “Satellite” explores gravitational forces and the relationships between them. Beginning grounded with just voice and guitar, the track soon finds itself pulled in multiple directions as contrasting layers of electronic sounds emerge. These competing forces eventually succeed in drawing the vocals away from the guitar’s gravitational orbit, sending them into uncharted celestial territories that remain tantalizingly out of reach.
Finally, Netta Spiegel‘s brief but bittersweet “Fire” from her debut EP Living Room Miniatures invites us to find solace through a lens of mundane innocence (if there is such a thing). The song cycles through a complete emotional journey in mere moments—from turmoil to resolution—offering a glimpse into the disorienting nature of our current times while maintaining a gentle, healing presence.
We hope this month’s selections bring you some measure of peace and reflection. Share your thoughts and discoveries with us at: research@shufu.studio
